Say Hello to the H!
A H-shaped floorpan provides efficient use of space, allowing for a well-organised layout that maximises both functionality and flow.
The design typically features two parallel wings connected by a central hub, which can enhance natural light and ventilation throughout the structure. This configuration also promotes privacy, as living and sleeping areas can be separated from communal spaces.
The H-shape can facilitate outdoor connections, such as patios or gardens, creating inviting outdoor living areas. See Barwon Heads House, Nimbin House and Ark S3 to get inspired by thoughtfully design H-shaped floorplans.
A H-shaped Haven – A Sustainable Off-grid Haven with Separate Wings
The Fish Creek House was designed to maximise sustainability and liveability, with the spaces within being light-filled and naturally ventilated by using passive design principles.
Oriented towards the north to capture sunrise and moonlight. This careful positioning takes full advantage of natural cooling, heating, and lighting, reducing the need for artificial sources.
The home is split into two zones – entertaining and rest, connected together via a central entryway. This entry acts as an airlock, assisting in the climate & noise control within spaces.
The sleeping module was placed on the northwest side to provide privacy, views, and protection from cold winter winds.

A Modular Floorplan for Everyone – The L-shaped Design
Our in-house architects configured this classic layout to fit a variety of blocks of all shapes and sizes. An L-shaped floorplan provides practicality and room for adaptation.
The entrance takes place at the apex of the L, and to one side are the shared living room and kitchen areas, and to the other arm of the L is the private area of the house, the room corridor. Both the living room and bedrooms overlook the outdoor deck and the landscape.Â
As a result, this home can be upsized or downsized. It is perfect for a one-bedroom couples retreat or a larger four-bedroom family home. From the materiality (colours and finishes), inside out layout and sustainable features, this Arkular home can get this design to suit your style with the help of our clever architects.

An L-shaped Jindabyne Dream
The home is split into two wings allowing the occupants to acclimatise and adapt to the extreme weather conditions year-round.
Comprising 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, a library and a study/office space this multi-functional home is well-equipped for rest, work, sleep and fun.
The house is entirely off-grid, with the inclusion of a 25,000L water tank and 15kw solar system. Through clever design choices and the inclusion of eco-friendly materials and technologies, this is a home both the client and the planet will feel good about.

Why not try the ‘U’ shape?
If the ‘T’ or ‘L’ layout isn’t the right fit for you, why not consider a U-shaped configuration? Located on sprawling farmland, the Bangalow Hinterland House is a private, off-grid U-shaped family retreat.
The U-shaped design offers refuge from the wind, whilst passive solar principles maximise exposure to the sun. Each room aligns effortlessly to celebrate the individuality of the site, with the free-flowing design opening across the landscape to merge land, sea and sky.
Requirements for an off-grid solution were driven not only by the client’s eco-consciousness but the remoteness and isolation of the site. This has created an empowering and independent lifestyle, with a positive environmental impact.

Get Cranked – A Tassie Home that Cranks at 20 Degrees
The clients of our Huon Valley House sought an energy-efficient home, with considered spaces for a comfortable work-from-home lifestyle.
Responding sympathetically to the steep site the built form runs parallel to the contours, nesting down into the hill. The dwelling cranks at 20 degrees to follow the landscape, opening out towards the north with views across the conservation area.
The home is equipped with 1 main bedroom + ensuite, 2 kids’ bedrooms, a bathroom, 2 studies/ home offices to accommodate working from home and 1 gym/ guest room. A home the whole family, friends and guests can enjoy.
