The Design
The site is perched atop a hill with picturesque views in every direction. Sweeping outlooks across the rugged bush setting are seen to the north, whilst easterly views are positioned toward the valley of the Snowy River. A truly unique Australian environment, it allows one to marvel at spectacular sunrises and sunsets.
The clients sought a getaway spot as a retreat from the northern beaches, a place to adventure the allure and charm of the snowy mountains. Being an active family, they wanted a space of respite from the cold and a spot to allow their cycling, skiing and hiking lifestyle to be encouraged and nurtured.
Floor Plan
The home is split into two wings allowing the occupants to acclimatise and adapt to the extreme weather conditions year-round. Comprising 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, a library and a study/office space this multi-functional home is well-equipped for rest, work, sleep and fun.
Sustainable Features
Clad in Japanese burnt timber, the structure recesses into the natural landscape and contrasts effortlessly with the bright white snow seen during the cooler months.
The house is entirely off-grid, with the inclusion of a 25,000L water tank and 15kw solar system. Through clever design choices and the inclusion of eco-friendly materials and technologies, this is a home both the client and the planet will feel good about.
