The Design
Completely off-grid, the Bangalow Hinterland House offers the quintessential peaceful escape and enjoyment of the Byron Bay lifestyle. The site’s intentional orientation captures both the sunrise over Cape Byron and the magical sunset over the rolling green hinterlands.
The prominent use of glass provides picturesque panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and a continuous connection with the idyllic surrounding hillside. The liveability of the space is paramount, with each window and doorway designed to work with the changes in season and the use of natural stone flooring accentuating the flow from inside to out.
Layout
The U-shaped design offers refuge from the wind, whilst passive solar principles maximise exposure to the sun. Each room aligns effortlessly to celebrate the individuality of the site, with the free-flowing design opening across the landscape to merge land, sea and sky.
Sustainability
Requirements for an off-grid solution were driven not only by the client’s eco-consciousness but the remoteness and isolation of the site. This has created an empowering and independent lifestyle, with a positive environmental impact.
