The Design
Located on a steep hillside site bordered by lush bushland with a creek below the property, the area is a nesting hotspot for the endangered Wedge Tailed Eagle.
The clients sought an energy-efficient home, with considered spaces for a comfortable work-from-home lifestyle. Responding sympathetically to the steep site the built form runs parallel to the contours, nesting down into the hill. The dwelling cranks at 20 degrees to follow the landscape, opening out towards the north with views across the conservation area.
Layout
The home is equipped with 1 main bedroom + ensuite, 2 kids’ bedrooms, a bathroom, 2 studies/ home offices to accommodate working from home and 1 gym/ guest room. A home the whole family, friends and guests can enjoy.
Materials
Stratco Hiland Tray Nailstrip has been selected for the external cladding due to its modern architectural aesthetic, in addition to locally sourced timber infill, with a blockwork base and blade wall that surgically cuts through the rolling landscape
Sustainable features
A highly energy-efficient design, the home is equipped with 140 mm thick stud walls to hold high insulation levels, a heat recovery system in the laundry for significantly improved air quality and air tightness at Passivhaus standard (0.6ach @50Pa), pivotal components when building an energy-efficient home. Unilux Isostar Aluminium clad UPVc frames with triple glazing have been selected for their high thermal efficiency, whilst a fireplace with heat transfer ensures efficient use of any heat generated.
