The Site

South Golden Beach is a peaceful coastal town located a short distance from Byron Bay. A truly idyllic location, the house is situated on a block nestled amongst native bushland that hugs Yelgun creek. The perfect spot for kayaking, the creek splits the town and bleeds off into the nature reserve surrounding South Golden Beach.

The Design

This design focused on creating a comfortable, low-maintenance dwelling that seamlessly fits into the beautiful surroundings—a place for our client to gracefully age in place—at the same time, prioritising Yelgun Creek views, excluding neighbours where possible. As a result, one sees an expansive lake from the living-dining and studio, allowing the client to work and live in a space that celebrates the spot’s uniqueness and encourages all the creativity it brings.

Materials

Charred Japanese timber cladding has been chosen for the home, to blend seamlessly with the natural landscape. A neutral, organic palette has been selected for the internal finishes to create a light, bright and calming space. The internal knuckle separates the main living area from the sleeping space, accentuating the flow between outside and in.
