The Design
Significant glazing captures the natural elements and frames the peaceful surrounding views.
Orientated towards the bush outlook, the dwelling is setback at a distance to maximise solar gain during the winter months. A generous undercover space to the west ensures protection from inclement weather.
A recessed enclave within the façade creates space for the ultimate luxury – an outdoor bath, creating a sense of refuge and strengthening the home’s connection to the surrounding landscape.
Louvred full-height windows are complemented with sheer curtains to enhance movement and increase Biophilic interactions within the internal spaces.
Layout
Considered for downsizing retirees, the design comprises a main wing including the master bedroom, living and dining space, with a separate wing with extra bedrooms and a bathroom for family and guests that can be closed off when not in use.
The connecting hallway of the two wings acts as an airlock, assisting in climate and noise control within spaces.
A central courtyard harnesses indoor/outdoor connections, assisting in ventilation and flooding increased natural light into the living space and main bedroom.
Materials
Colorbond cladding has been chosen for its ease of maintenance, durability and classic architectural aesthetic. Charred timber cladding at the rear of the dwelling adds textural interest and contrast.
The thoughtful selection of environmentally conscious materials and integration of nature within the built form further highlight and strengthens connections to the natural environment.
