The Design
With two separate modules linked by a carport and outdoor space, this design creates a vibrant living environment that blends style and function while embracing sustainability. The buildings will be elevated to mitigate potential flood risks, ensuring safety and longevity.
Layout
Module 1 integrates a living/dining area, kitchen, and mudroom, providing a seamless flow for daily activities. The second module includes a bedroom, ensuite, and a European laundry. Additionally, a lockable area will be incorporated for the owners’ belongings when the property is unoccupied.
Module 2 features a living/dining area, kitchenette, bedroom, bathroom, and a separate toilet. This layout is ideal for short-term stays, offering comfort and convenience for guests.
Sustainable Features
Built to BAL 12.5 specifications, the design will prioritise sustainable opportunities, utilising passive design principles to harness prevailing winds and winter sun.
This will help enhance natural ventilation and reduce energy consumption. External materials were chosen based on weather exposure, with sustainable charred timber selected ensure durability and environmental responsibility.
A carport will link both buildings, featuring a roof equipped with solar panels to power the entire home. 4 x 4000L water tanks and battery storage will help with utility independence.
The site is located in a rural area making it ideal for both short-term client use and long-term rental opportunities. The design aims to create a unique living experience that respects the environment while providing functional and stylish accommodation options.
