The Design
Located on a secluded site surrounded by native bushland and mountain views, the clients desired a flexible, private and comfortable living environment for the entire family, bringing together parents, children, grandchildren, and grandparents.
This layout not only accommodates the different lifestyles and needs of each family member, but also allows for future changes as needs alter over time.
The Layout
A clever courtyard design, the home wraps around a central landscaped garden space with a productive garden, fire pit area and native planting. Acting as a focal point, the courtyard provides a private outdoor space that can be enjoyed from every room within the home.
The design is divided into three sections for parents, children and grandchildren and a space for grandparents each with a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living space.
As a whole, the home comprises 5 beds, 4 baths, 3 kitchens, 3 living/ dining spaces, a large outdoor area with BBQ, garden storage space, communal laundry, entry / mud room, cellar and an art studio / office space.
Materials
External cladding materials include Colorbond Corrugated Custom Orb in the Shale Grey, Silvertop Ash Timber Shiplap cladding and batten detailing, Translucent Polycarbonate sheeting for undercover spaces and concrete block work.
Sustainability
Sustainable features include 5 x 10,000 L water tanks for use within the home and garden, a heat pump hot water system, productive gardens, passive design principles implemented including considered orientation, shading, high grade insulation and double glazing and solar panels.
