Insights
from the
architect.
The Site
The property is surrounded by forest and a heritage hazelnut farm. The building feels at one with nature, enveloped by the surrounding trees.
The Design
A rural retreat, this barn-stye ‘Scandi inspired’ modular home has a long linear design and a classic gable end form to emphasise the internal pitch.
Weathered Silvertop ash and galvanised Colorbond custom orb roof have been chosen to reflect the agricultural setting harmonising with the rural landscape.
Sustainability
The linear design has east to west orientation to assist in promoting cross ventilation throughout the home. FSC certified external timbers milled from sustainable forestry methods will be used externally.
BAL Rating
The home has a BAL rating of 29 with non-combustible materials, sarking and insulation. A 10,000L water tank is located on the property for water supply for firefighting purposes.
The defendable space of the property extends 50 metres, meaning vegetation (fuel) has been modified and managed to reduce the effects of flame contact and radiant heat associated with a bushfire.
