Jindabyne House – L-shaped 280 m2

A considered yet contemporary bush design, the Jindabyne House respects and appreciates the constantly evolving environment in which it is situated.

An idyllic place for entertaining and living, the home offers respite from the rugged alpine terrain during the cooler months, whilst also providing a central hub to explore the Snowy Mountains region.

Reflecting the warmth and familiarity of an alpine cabin, the home is clad in Japanese burnt timber and is entirely off-grid, with the inclusion of a 25,000L water tank and 15kw solar system.

Howqua House – H-shaped 85 m2

An outdoor-oriented family, the clients sought a space of refuge after a day of activity and to protect them from the winds that blow up the hill.

The home consists of two forms, joined by an entry knuckle that hugs the north-facing deck to capture the winter sun and provide a private retreat for the distillery.

During summer, the house expands out allowing the occupants to revel in indoor-outdoor living, entertaining and relaxing and take in the magnificent surrounding views.

Designing in Alpine Locations – Warming, Resilient & Eco-friendly Homes

Modular home design for alpine climates require a thoughtful approach to ensure suitability for the unique climate and environmental conditions of these regions.

Arkular homes have been designed to withstand harsh alpine weather, including heavy snowfall, strong winds, and significant temperature fluctuations.

Key design elements include robust insulation to maintain warmth during cold winters, as well as high-performance double or triple glazing that minimise heat loss while maximising natural light.

The elevated foundations of our homes can help prevent snow accumulation and water damage, while durable materials such as weather-resistant cladding and roofing are essential for longevity.

We also incorporate energy-efficient systems, such as solar panels and efficient heating solutions, to further enhances sustainability and comfort.
