A Contemporary Wellness Retreat in Ventnor

The perfect blend of refined architectural design and luxury aesthetics, the Ventnor House offers a unique relaxing retreat for our clients, guests and friends.

External cladding includes a combination of charred Shou Sugi Ban iron bark timber from Eco Timber, Silvertop Ash shiplap and Colorbond roofing in the Shade Night Sky, creating a visually stunning façade that harmonizes with the natural landscape. Internally, a moody and luxurious palette of matte black, deep timber tones, and brushed brass tapware creates a warm and comfortable atmosphere.

Maximising indoor/ outdoor flow, the home features a large central living space that opens up to take in the picturesque surroundings. A standout feature of the home is the suspended Focus Gyrofocus Fireplace from Oblica Fireplaces which serves as a captivating focal point in the living space and keeps everyone warm on the chilly winter nights.

The Location & Indigenous Land

Situated on the traditional lands of the Bunurong people, this home is a celebration of the natural beauty of Phillip Island.

Millowl, the Bunurong name for Phillip Island, is part of the Country recognised as being the Traditional Land and Waters of the Bunurong People and is steeped in cultural history dating back tens of thousands of years.

The Yalluk Bulluk came to Millowl in the summer months to feast on shellfish, fish, small marsupials and mutton birds (short-tailed shearwaters). Ochre was available at several locations on Millowl and Churchill Island and would have been used as body decoration during ceremonies.

A Clever Linear Design to Maximise Light & Views

A clever linear design that maximises natural light and breathtaking views, the home includes 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms all within a generous 145 m² layout.

The simplicity of the linear design not only looks aesthetically stunning but also optimises sun penetration and coastal breezes throughout the day.

With separate sleeping wings at each end of the house, residents can enjoy privacy and tranquility, while the central living space serves as the perfect hub for relaxation and entertaining.

From Concept to Completion – An Easy and Rewarding Process

Our easy process, from the initial design phase to completion, fostered a straightforward and enjoyable collaboration.

In the initial discovery stage the client was seeking a home of wellness and restoration, that would take in the Phillip Island landscape and provide a space to relax.

By providing our client with high quality visual images, a walk through video and both internal and external material palettes, they could visualise the feeling and look of their new home to achieve the highest quality outcomes.

Holistic Living: A Home Crafted for Wellness and Restoration

Emphasising restoration and connection with nature, the home includes a Found Space 4-person infrared sauna and a cold plunge that cools to 3°C, promoting wellness and relaxation.

Hot and cold therapy has been shown to enhance health and recovery, with heat alleviating pain and improving circulation, while cold therapy reduces inflammation. Combining both methods can improve recovery time by up to 30% and promote overall wellbeing, making them essential tools for holistic health.

A private gym featuring the SlimBeam by NOHrD offers a space for fitness enthusiasts, while eco-friendly bedding by Mynt Lab is designed to regulate temperature, ensuring a restful night’s sleep.

The inclusion of an outdoor bath provides the perfect spot to relax and connect with the stunning surrounding views.
