In 2025 we saw some amazing homes from architects and designers that nailed modern living. From a cool Californian beach abode to a chic Scandi cabin, check out your top 3 favourite inspiring homes, each reflecting a distinct architectural style, stylish material palettes, and seamless integration with their surroundings.

1. Villa S by Andersson & Stare Architects

A minimalist statement in Sweden’s wild landscape. Perched on a rocky peak overlooking Sweden’s Orust fjord, the home integrates into the land with an intentional presence.

The architects divided the interior programming of Villa S across the two volumes, organising life around a clear distinction between social and private spaces. Upon entry, visitors are drawn into the social areas, where a direct line of sight leads through the house and out toward the fjord.

2. Kent House by Brent Buck Architects

Multi-generational architecture we love: With framed views, generous glazing and considered openings, Kent House by Brent Buck Architects fully embraces the landscape and those within.

The exterior showcases dark, cedar-clad walls that support pitched metal roofs, with clean lines and simple geometries ensuring the home remains legible amid the surrounding foliage.

Inspired by the picturesque surroundings, the entry sequence is unhurried, with a discreet garage on the lower level enabling unobstructed views across the driveway to the low-lying home.

3. Walk Street House by ras-a studio

Capturing the best of coastal living on a tiny lot, the Walk-Street House by ras-a studio is an airy stack of wood-slatted boxes that complements the areas mid century bungalows, while also reflecting the more recent taller developments.

Thanks to the constant ocean breeze and operable doors and windows, the home utilises passive cooling, eliminating the need for air-conditioning.

For warmth, in-floor hydronic radiant heating is installed throughout. A solar water collector on the south roof provides the domestic hot water and supplements the boiler for the in-floor radiant system.
