Advantages of a T-shaped Floorplan

1. Breathe Easy in a T-shaped Home

A T-shaped floorplan enhances natural ventilation, contributing to comfortable and energy efficient living spaces.

2. Live in Harmony with Separate Spaces

Differentiating private and social spaces, the T-shape creates a balanced environment with areas closed off or opened depending on different needs.

3. Create an Outdoor Oasis

The intersection of the two wings of a T design creates the perfect space for a private outdoor area.

4. Experience the Flow

A T-shaped layout optimises room layouts based on sun exposure to create seamless flow between each space.

5. Customise to Perfection

A main advantage of the t-shape is it’s versatility and how it can be customised to suit individual preferences.

Apfel House / Hebra Arquitectos

A favourite T-shape design by Herbra Arquitectos, Apfel House sits high above the tree tops in Chile.

Two arms were arranged perpendicular to each other. On one side, a wing that houses a common area, services, and the master bedroom was positioned parallel to Lake Ranco and the mountain range, while the other wing, which houses four bedrooms and three bathrooms, was placed against it, forming a “T” shaped floor plan.

“The house was thought as two horizontal arms that together would find the best possible view of the nature around it,” the studio said.

CDLR House by Clara Sola-Morales Studio

A modern 300-square-metre residence consists of three volumes configured in a skewed T-shape designed by Architects Clara Sola-Morales Studio located in El Peñon Reserve, Mexico.

The relationship with surroundings pays main attention to leafy nature, and its shape gives an answer to different landscape views from the inside. This holiday house with only one level on a small slope, was designed to feature three long ‘arms’.

These elements house bedrooms in different typologies, while the structure’s central point  – the point where they all join up– becomes the main living space, comprising an open-plan living and dining area, and a kitchen.

Creating lookouts in three different directions, residents are able to celebrate the home’s unique natural setting no matter which room they are in. There is so much to love about this design. ⠀
