Over the weekend, the team at Arkular visited the 2023 Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show to view some incredible gardens and landscapes.

“Aurum” by Mint Pool & Landscape Design
Mint Pool & Landscape Design was highly recognised in 2023, receiving The Gold Show Garden Award, People’s Choice Award, Mark Bence Construction Award and the Innovative Design Award for their spectacular design – Aurum.
In their own words, Mint describes Aurum (Latin for gold) as:
“The design weaves elements of modernist and art deco philosophy together and reinterprets them using contemporary design principles.
The fresh colour palette brings aesthetics to the fore in a design that is climate-conscious and people-centric. Like all art, “Aurum” is an exploration of balance within the landscape; bold versus delicate, man-made and natural. The result is an elegant resolution, a garden that flows in a cohesive narrative.”

Urban Wild by Josie Wilson & Suzannah Kennet Lister – Swinburne University of Technology
Urban Wild by Josie Wilson and Suzannah Kennet Lister is designed with the future in mind, recognising how the choices we make in our private spaces can play a part in mitigating the impact of climate breakdown and urbanisation.
They describe the design below:
“We live in an altered and constantly altering landscape. Blocks grow smaller, and hard surfaces spread.
The heat rises and blisters. The rain turns to waves and comes again, and again. The space for reprieve, for relief, for life, is shrinking.
So how do we foster more, with less? Less space, less waste, less ego. We keep it simple and we use what we have.”

Blackburn House
Our Blackburn House is a family home nestled amongst the gums, cantilevering dramatically over the sloped site so it feels more like a treehouse than a regular home.
The beautiful landscaping, garden and pool were completed by Mint Pool & Landscape Design in collaboration with Greener Visions Landscape. They focused on creating a native, drought-tolerant oasis that complemented and harmonised with the home perfectly – a stunning result.
