Architecture Arkular Loves

As architects and design lovers, we respect the uniqueness of varying architecture from around the world and enjoy sharing architectural work to inspire. Take a look below at some amazing designs that have inspired us recently from different corners of the world.

New Zealand

Tom’s House by  Anna-Marie Chin Architects

A clever smaller home made flexible enough to host a crowd. And at 120m2 ‘Toms House’ by @annamariechinarchitects does just that.

Chin’s reinterpretation of the prescribed pitched rooves and limited material palette of the subdivision resulted in this black asymmetrical form that packs a huge amount of experience into its petite shell.

Deftly sited to ensure privacy and views past neighbouring houses, the home was designed to sleep eight so the owner, who works on superyachts, could rent it out to friends or on @airbnb when he’s away.

Showcasing the beauty and resilience of New Zealand architecture, Tom’s House is a clever design that meets the needs and modest budget of the client.

Norway

Blending into its environment, this snug retreat by @linesolgaardarkitekter appeals to the senses. The 63 sqm cabin stands on steel pillars amid a rocky Norwegian landscape, framing expansive views of the water ahead.

With its snug wooden shell blending almost seamlessly into its context, ‘Kjerringholmen’ is proof ‘that large houses don’t necessarily mean more quality of life. In just 63 square meters, with smart planning, it still has plenty of usable space.

‘This approach of ‘build smaller, build smart’, treating nature with respect, keeping the ecological footprint as small as possible is a natural Norwegian mindset, as we like to spend time in nature and the outdoor, to roam,’

– Architects Line Solgaard Arkitekter AS

Nordic architecture at its best, the design is a compact but comfortable and cosy hytte, with a minimal footprint.

Scotland

Harlosh Black H – Dualachas Architects

On the Isle of Skye’s rugged and beautiful west coast, Black h is designed to withstand the weather and embrace the landscape. Surrounded by an open croft, this architectural hideaway for two is a soft minimalistic space that’s private, contemporary and luxurious.

Harlosh Black H is a compact getaway home offering extreme privacy, a sense of escape and seclusion, in order to rest, recharge and reconnect with nature.

Hidden from view as visitors approach the croft by car, the home is only revealed when they walk to the top of a ridge. This siting of the dwelling is intended to reinforce the sense of escapism and seclusion.

A beautiful piece of contemporary Scottish architectural design, views are optimised in both directions with the house positioned on the crest of a hill, incorporating floor-to-ceiling glazing at either end to frame these panoramas.

CDLR House by Clara Sola-Morales Studio

A modern 300-square-metre residence consists of three volumes configured in a “Y” shape designed by Architects Clara Sola-Morales Studio located in El Peñon Reserve, Mexico.

The relationship with surroundings pays main attention to leafy nature, and its shape gives an answer to different landscape views from the inside. This holiday house with only one level on a small slope, was designed to feature three long ‘arms’.

These elements house bedrooms in different typologies, while the structure’s central point  – the point where they all join up– becomes the main living space, comprising an open-plan living and dining area, and a kitchen.

Creating lookouts in three different directions, residents are able to celebrate the home’s unique natural setting no matter which room they are in. There is so much to love about this design. â €

Kahutara House by Patchwork Architecture

A contemporary take on the rural shed Kahutara House by Patchwork Architecture sits peacefully within its natural surroundings.

The simplicity of form and use of natural materials combine in this S-shaped 128m² footprint, capturing the lake and farm views and providing shelter from strong northerly winds.

The wide, gabled roof is clipped at each end, extending at each side to sit out over the outdoor areas. Gutters and downpipes have been concealed to allow for a seamless transition to the exterior cladding.

Sliding doors separate the working and living spaces, connecting to the outdoor spaces and capturing the picturesque views. A neutral interior palette has been chosen to harmonise with the rural landscape, with detailed built-in cabinetry throughout.
