The Design
A home that re-imagines coastal family living through a series of carefully considered spaces that balance openness, privacy and practicality. Designed as a primary residence for a family, the home embraces its beachfront setting while creating a protected retreat from the street.
Layout
The home consists of a U-shaped plan, wrapping itself around a secluded courtyard that feels worlds away from the activity beyond. It’s a simple move with a powerful effect: the home opens generously to the ocean while simultaneously carving out its own private sanctuary.
A generous open-plan living, dining and kitchen zone stretches towards the beach, framed by full-height glazing that captures uninterrupted ocean views and floods the interiors with natural light.
Sustainability
Sustainability is embedded into the design from the outset. The home employs passive design principles, using orientation, cross ventilation and natural daylight to reduce reliance on mechanical heating and cooling. Operable louvres capture prevailing breezes, while the U-shaped layout encourages airflow throughout the home. Solar has been considered from the beginning, ensuring the home is ready for future renewable energy integration.
