The Design
This 6-star energy rated home was deliberately designed to be small in size, and at 66m2, it allows for ample outdoor space on the quarter-acre block.
As the land had never been built before, it was essential for the clients to choose prefabricated design and construction. Using these off-site manufacturing techniques ensured minimal disturbance to wildlife and minor impact to the earth.
Layout
Private sleeping quarters in the back complete with secluded outdoor shower, and an open-plan living area with kitchen in the front for sweeping views of the beautiful gardens.
The properties frontage includes expansive glazed doors opening to a large deck. Accurately placed battened awnings and screens provide shade and privacy, encouraging residents to make the most of their outdoor living year round.

Moving Water: A Coastal Garden with Garawana Creative
Passionate about increasing awareness of cultural Australian landscape design, Jim Fogarty collaborated with Charles Solomon who founded Garawana Creative in 2014.
The house is a modern version of an old fishing cottage. The idea of using a prefabricated house by Arkular was important as the site had never been built on and wanted to do so with minimal disturbance to the property. The deck and pergola was designed by Jim Fogarty and features Ironbark timber decking boards and screens.
