The Design
This design proposes a simple, considered primary residence for our client, positioned on their rural property in Bungendore NSW. Drawing inspiration from the Ark M1, the design embraces a restrained, highly functional approach, prioritising light, space, and connection to landscape over excess.
The Site
The design responds to its context by prioritising orientation, capturing both sunrise and sunset views, while maintaining a respectful relationship with the surrounding landscape.
Outdoor areas, including decks and pergolas, are designed with awareness of on-site conditions, including the presence of livestock. The placement of the home and its external spaces balances outlook, privacy, and durability in a working rural environment.
Layout
An open plan living, dining and kitchen area accommodates an eight person dining setting while remaining intimate and uncluttered. The kitchen is simple and practical, with integrated pantry storage and minimal appliances for a low maintenance lifestyle.
A dedicated area for a baby grand piano sits within the living space. Built-in bookshelves and storage are integrated throughout.
The private suite includes a walk-in robe and generous bathing space. A bath, located is positioned to capture views and natural light, creating a calm and immersive atmosphere.
Sustainability
The home will be oriented to maximise natural light and solar gain, improving year-round comfort while reducing reliance on artificial systems.
Thermal comfort is achieved through efficient heating (hydronic) and ceiling fans, supported by a compact footprint, thoughtful planning, and durable, low-impact materials.
