Albert Park multipurpose sports complex

Insights
from the
architect.

The Design

The project is located in the Albert Park precinct servicing the Ian Johnson Oval 1 for client Parks Victoria and association with Sports and Recreation Victoria.

Arkular proposed to develop the underutilised area around the oval, to increase sporting participation and competition within the Albert Park Precinct. Linking supporting facilities such as footpath connections, seating and shelters for spectators was required.

This project has been designed to the requirements of the relevant AFL standards, female-friendly and Universal Design Standards/Principles. The development will connect to its adjoining neighbours, including St. Kilda Park Primary School, sports and bowling clubs, and the Australian Grand Prix event. Architecturally the building has an external screen providing rain protection for the user and allowing greenery to grow, shading the façade and softening the form into the landscape with the cityscape beyond.
