An idyllic bushland retreat.
Welcome to Arkular’s design of the month – Little Hampton House.
Little Hampton house is set on top of a rising hill, located amongst rugged bushland, rolling down to meet an expansive, picturesque dam.
Simplistic yet modern, the home has been designed for a young family to find refuge from busy town life, with external materials mindfully selected to blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape.
Little Hampton is a small town in Victoria, located near Trentham falls. Surrounded by pristine bushland, the layout of the home has been carefully considered to connect with the landscape and provide the perfect space to relax.
The Layout
Mindfully designed for a young family, the house comprises 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living, kitchen and dining area, with rooms cleverly compartmentalised for privacy and solitude when needed.
The main bedroom faces east, capturing the rising morning sun, whilst the living areas face north. A spacious covered western deck has been strategically designed to view the sunset over the scenic Wombat State Forest.
A west-facing outdoor entertaining and social space equipped with an outdoor barbecue and seating area creates the perfect spot to pause, reflect and take in some of Australia’s most idyllic scenery.
Notable Finishes and Fixtures
A neutral, organic selection of soft greys and timbers has been utilised for the home creating a peaceful yet modern finish.
External
Matt black James Hardie Axon cladding is paired with Semintel Barestone panels, with the organic appearance of the Barestone chosen to blend seamlessly with the surrounding environment. Silver Top Ash decking has been chosen for its versatility and soft beige complexion, complementing the palette chosen for the home.
Internal
A neutral interior palette of warm greys, timber and a touch of green in the laundry space, pays homage to the colours of the Australian Landscape. A sleek Hergom Glance L Fireplace is the star of the living space, pairing perfectly with Grey Nexus Stone and soft Verve Oak timber floors.
Delivery Process
Our manufacturing supplier carefully delivered the Little Hampton House to its destination, being mindful of causing as minimal disruption to the local flora and fauna as possible.
The utilisation of the prefabrication method has allowed for minimal on-site work, ensuring low impact on the pristine bushland setting enveloping the property.
The combination of conscious architecture and efficient manufacturing and delivery of the Little Hampton House has created a stress-free journey and resulted in a beautiful home being delivered to the client.

Dja Dja Wurrung country (Djaara people)
The traditional owners of the Little Hampton area are the Dja Dja Wurrung people, known as Djaara.
The Djaara people were bound to their land through their spiritual belief system known as the Dreaming, where information travelled through established networks over vast distances. The Dja Dja Wurrung communities comprised 16 land-owning clans that spoke similar languages and were connected through mutual interests and totems.
To the Djaara, country or Djandak, is more than just a landscape, it is a living entity that holds stories of history and creation. They were, and still are, highly resourceful people, accessing and discovering raw materials for hunting, gathering, ceremony and medicinal purposes.
Arkular acknowledges the traditional owners of the area, whose cultures and customs have nurtured and continue to nurture the land.

Set amongst green pastures and extensive bushland, Little Hampton is located within close proximity to some amazing sites and attractions. Our top 4 recommendations are:
1. Trentham Falls
Located in the Coliban River Scenic Reserve, the moss-covered falls are surrounded by lush bushland which protect native species such as the manna gum and a variety of native wild flowers.
2. Hepburn Mineral Springs
Hepburn mineral springs offers a place to rest and rejuvenate, with a day spa and old-fashioned water pumps and pipes available to taste a variety of mineral formulations.
3. Wombat State Forest
Roughly 70,000 hectares in size, the Wombat State Forest is the perfect spot for walking, cycling, camping and wildlife spotting.
4. Hanging Rock
Events are regular at the rock, with year-round festivities including concerts, picnics and overnight camping adventures.
