The
Guest
House

A home that makes the outside its priority

One of our newest custom designs is for a busy Melbourne family. The Merricks Guest house is high on a hill overlooking the valley and sea beyond. We were so excited to see this beauty come to life and so proud to finally be able to capture the home thanks to the talented photographer Adam O’Sullivan.

This low-maintenance, elegant tree design was created to accommodate clients who want a space for any guests & who are conscious of their environmental impact. Consisting of several prefabricated pods, this guest house has a light footprint by being constructed primarily offsite, using non-toxic & sustainable materials. Additionally, this home has minimal onsite work, with just decking being completed onsite and being raised off the ground by footings, ensuring minimal effect on the local flora and fauna.

Adding a Guest House makes sense

In recent years, more Australian families have wanted to expand their living space or gain additional income by building a guest house on their home property. A guest house can be an excellent solution for your growing family or your guests as it can increase your property value, provide a potential secondary income and offer a quiet personal space to work or relax.

An Arkular Modular Guest House is a stress-free way to build your guest house. This Merricks Guest House was pre-built in a Melbourne factory instead of being constructed on the remote. The Guest house arrives on-site by trucks to the property in sections and is assembled by contractors onsite.

Location heavily influences our Designs

Merricks is a township in the south-easterly extremity of the Mornington Peninsula in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, nearly 65 km south-oriental of Melbourne’s Central Business District. Modular is often cheaper and faster to construct since everything is pre-built before being shipped and assembled onsite and more sustainable with the wastage. It’s a choice that is good for your pocket, time and the world, and at Arkular, we don’t sacrifice design with our talented architects supplying the goods.

This site is located on the crest of a hill with 380 views of both the ocean and rolling hills. The skilled land planning and design solutions provide a sense of place for this home to sit within the landscape elegantly. Our team excels in finding solutions that exceed our client’s expectations, enhance the landscape, and bring a sense of place to the environments we create.

With these stunning rural views of the Bass Straight, from inside the house and on the veranda, you can watch the sunset, relax by the fireplace or take a short drive to wineries, quality restaurants, beaches, golf courses, Hot Springs and many other attractions.
One go-to when visiting Mornington is Pt Leo Winey. On arrival, you are automatically immersed in a visual feast for all, with art, rolling vineyards and ocean views commanding the horizon as far as the eye can see. From the moment guests arrive, they are taken by the sweeping views that emerge in front of them, encapsulating glimpses of Phillip Island, across the 50-acre vineyard, landscapes of grazing cattle and an expansive 16-acre Sculpture Park with the vast Western Port – comprising a Cellar Door & Wine Terrace at one end and ‘Laura’, our fine dining restaurant to the other, the Pt. Leo Restaurant’s experience sits at the heart of this world-class venue. A place you can spend hours enjoying. (Much of this information has been taken from Pt. Leo Winey’s website)

Smart Design.

This house is larger in size but light on impact, using passive design techniques and modular construction with sustainable materials. It was important to the owners that the home connected well to that outdoors, encouraging interactions with nature and the beautiful environment the Peninsula community offers. The exterior of the house includes a combination of sustainably sourced natural timbers. It juxtaposes against the square form of the house, creating a modern yet warm and humble aesthetic to the guest house. Over time, the timbers will weather off and make a rustic, silvered look that will help to root the home in a peaceful coastal location. This can be slightly already, but this colour will continue to change organically.

There are plenty of reasons why clients choose Arkular to design and manage the build of their homes. But there’s one key reason why particular. That is our streamlined process; we make building less stressful and more enjoyable. We are ever evolving and make a home that is true to you.
